The Whisper of God: Learning to Hear Him

 Good Day my lovely people

We are at the third part of our Journey to the Cross Series : The Whisper of God: Learning to Hear Him.

Quick question- Have you ever longed to hear God speak, but felt like He was Silent? It's definitely something I think about constantly.

We often expect God's voice to come in huge, dramatic ways - like thunder, visions, or burning bushes. But more often, He chooses to speak in a Whisper. A gentle nudge, a quiet stirring in the heart and in that soft Whisper, we find intimacy with Him.

When God Speaks in a Whisper.

In 1 Kings 19, the prophet Elijah was discouraged and desperate to hear from God. He stood on a mountain, and the Bible says:

"The Lord said, Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by"

Then a great and powerful wind tore through the mountains.. but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake.. but the Lord was not in the earthquake.

After the earthquake came a fire.. but the Lord was not in the fire..

And after the fire came a gentle whisper..

-1 Kings 19 verse 11-12 (NIV)

God wasn't in the dramatic events. He was in the Whisper.

Why a Whisper? You may ask, because whispers draw us in close. They require stillness, attentiveness, and intimacy. That's the kind of relationship God desires with us - not distant, but deeply personal.

How Does God Whisper to Us Today?

God still speaks - not always audibly but deeply and clearly.

Through His Word

The Bible is alive and powerful (Hebrews 4 verse 12). Sometimes a verse will suddenly feel personal - that's God's Whisper.

Through the Holy Spirit

You may feel a conviction, peace, or prompting you just can't explain. That's the Spirit guiding you (John 14 verse 26).

Through Stillness and Nature

Creation reveals His glory (Romans 1 verse 20). In the quiet of nature or moments of stillness, God often Whispers reassurance and wisdom.

Through People

A friend's encouragement, a sermon, or even a stranger's words can be God speaking through others.

Through Dreams or Impressions

While not every dream is from God, sometimes He does use dreams and quiet impressions to communicate.

Now I'm sure we all long to hear from God, so here's how we can tune our hearts to His voice:

Quiet the Noise - make space, turn off distractions, Give God your undivided attention.

Read and Meditate on His Word - God speaks through His Word, don't just read, Listen.

Be Still and Wait - God often speaks when we slow down. Stillness invites His presence.

Respond with Obedience - The more you respond to His voice, the more familiar it becomes. Jesus said, "My sheep listen to my voice, I know them, and they follow me" (John 10 verse 27).

So Hearing God's Whisper isn't about being "super spiritual". It's about creating space for intimacy. He wants to be close, to guide you, to comfort you, and speak into your life. The Whisper is His invitation to lean in.

So today, slow down, Quiet your heart, Listen.

He's speaking - Can you hear Him?
